What Moves the Dead
I really love this book, and being a Poe girly, I think T. Kingfisher did a great job. As a rewrite of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, the story opens with Alex (ka/kan, but I may use ’their’ in this review sometimes), who is going to visit their friends, the Ushers, because of a very pressing letter. First of all, let’s hear it for this cover! I’m such a sucker for a good cover, and all of Kingfisher’s are really, really good. I love the representation in t

Toil and Trouble
This is going to be a little different from my normal reviews, since it's a book of short stories. A book full of 15 different stories of women and witchcraft, I had a great time with a majority of these. Starting at the top! Starsong was a fun little story to begin with, and I really enjoyed jumping straight in with a gay story. There was an excellent, if short, study on addiction and trauma, but I really wish authors would stop with the "tumblers" and "snack chats." It's no

Squad
I had this book described to me as Heathers but werewolves, and if that's not accurate-- Becca is new to the Piedmont area, and so she's very grateful to her new friends for taking her in so quickly. It doesn't hurt that they're also the most popular kids in school. When they finally let her in on all their secrets, Becca doesn't hesitate to say yes, even if that means turning into a wolf once a month. There wasn't really anything super big that got to me for this one, I just

Witchblood
I love witches, and I love the gays, so gay witches?? Yes, please!! Yonna is a witch, an old one, and after her last breakup, she's decided to roam the southern US on her motorcycle with her familiar and enjoy her immortality. But a gang of vampires have a different idea. They're after Yonna's ex, Esme, the one who created the witches and the vampires, and it's up to Yonna to stop them. I hate that we don't get a ton of information until roughly the end. I had to piece togeth

The Kiss Curse
I read the Ex Hex and figured I might as well keep going! Vivi's cousin, Gwyn, runs the only witchy store in Graves Glenn. That is, until Rhys' brother Wells moves in next door to open a rival store. With Halloween right around the corner, Gwyn is pissed, and so starts a semi-friendly competition with Wells. That is, until she starts losing her powers. Starting, per the usual, with what I didn't like. I'm really ovet this romance-specific trope where the characters flat-out r
