The Shining
Good god, I understand why my professor was mad. I clearly did not read this book enough for discussions in class. All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. When Jack Torrance loses his job, he pulls some favors to become the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in Colorado. But the hotel is old, and there are many ghosts within the walls. It makes me ridiculously uncomfortable that a white author felt the need to traumatize his only black character in the way he did. Also, the b

Empire of Sand
I enjoyed this book so ridiculously much, and I don’t usually listen to audiobooks. Also, please excuse any misspellings, as I did listen to an audiobook and so I’m trying my best. :) Mehr is the half-Amrithi daughter of a governor, and as such has lived her life relatively free of the confines Ahmban culture would usually place on her. But when her dad dies, and Florence has to go home, Benji shows up as well…but he’s a ghost. I have several issues with this book. For one, the language

The City of Dusk
A Booktoker I trust recommended this one, and boy am I glad she did. The world is dying, and the heirs of the four Houses of the city of Nexus may be the only ones who can stop it. Taesia, the shadow-weilder, Angelica, the elementalist, Nikolas, the sun-bearer, and Risha, the necromancer, have to set aside their differences in the fight for the crown if they’re going to save everyone on their realm. Meanwhile, magic-users called Conjurers are putting everyone in danger with t
